Check in luggage limits on Alitalia?

I see that each piece needs to be less than 20 kgs (44lbs), as per the Alitalia website. Am I able to check 2 pieces of luggage? I want to check a large piece and a small one. Thanks, I'm sure I should have found thid info when I did a search- but didn't.

You are talking about luggage restrictions for flights WHOLLY WITHIN Europe, right?

Ciao ~

Yes, you are able to check two pieces of luggage in and out of Italia. As Dukey notes though, the problem lies in your departure and/or destination to and from Italia.

I just flew from Napoli to LHR three weeks ago, with two pieces of checked luggage, that weighed a total of 27 kgs and the air steward at the check in counter said that it was a total of 23.5 kgs of checked luggage that was the limit and scolded me but I was okay and let me slide. Actually, they encouraged me to purchase MORE bags (not more stuff to put in it) upstairs at the luggage store, so that one bag didn't weigh as much as it did. Long story short - the number of bags didn't matter, just the total weight. All subject to change though, I presume.

Ciao Laura!

AP6380- I am also flying from US-- (AMERICAN Airlines)Then changing plans in Paris to Alitalia flight to Naples.

I am deciding to take my Large Suitcase, yet it does weigh a little more then my medium suitcase, or go with the Medium Suitcase, and instead, take my small carry-ON!

I don't want to have any "issues" with the luggage at check-ins, especially since I will be on multiple flights, and 2 different hotels.

As much as I hate to take "less clothing/shoes" I am going to do "A TEST RUN" with all that I would like to pack, and weigh the suitcase filled to know exactly the total weight.....then eliminate items if weight is too much.

I will have to look "chic" with less!
I guess I am lucky if that is the only big issue I have to worry about on this trip!

For your intra Europe flights you will have European type allowances - typically checked luggage allowance of around 23kg per person regardless of the number of bags you check.

Sorry, read that as you were taking more flights in Europe once you reached Italy.

Between the US & Italy you will have the Transatlantic allowance which is typically 2 bags of 23kg
