Cheap accomodations in London? Hostels???
Anyone know a way to stay in London for two weeks over Christmas that would not be exorbitantly expensive for one person? Hostels that have good rates in good location in London, England or anything else that can be thought of for cheap accomodations? Thanks!

Try university accommodation. They are open mainly for Easter and Summer, but a few open for Christmas as well. There's a list at:
http://www.lon.ac.uk/accom/site6/Academic2f.htm
Most cater for students and academics, but may take in others as well.

Hostels in London, at least the HI ones, are pretty expensive. Try http://www.uktrail.com/ for a list of independent hostels with mini-reviews.

Katie:

It really all depends on how low you're willing to go and what you want to sacrifice in your room.

I had the same predicament of cheap loding for one person (which barely exists). I found that some hostels were 35 pounds for a one bedroom, but you can go cheaper if you're willing to stay in a larger room with strangers.

It depends on what you want. I can tell you I got a rate of just under 30 pounds a night for a three-star hotel in Bayswater through www.discountcityhotels.com. Granted, I haven't taken the trip yet, so I can't comment on the quality of the place. But I have booked a one bedroom, with bath and small breakfast provided.

It just depends on what you want. If you'd like more info, just email me and I can give you my list of websites I've visited that have some low rates.

Cheers!
Jess
