Definately look into the Casci, 16th century frescos on the ceiling of the b-fest room, right around the corner from the Duomo and down the street from David. Staff delightful. I highly recommend it and it is highly recommended on this forum. But be warned they book up months in advance.

I can recommend Il Bargellino at 87 via Guelfa. My mother and I stayed there in early March and it was fine. 130,000 lire for double room with bath. We had room #9 which opens (as do others)onto a terrace at the back of the hotel. The website is www.ilbargellino.com. Feel free to email me if you have other questions.

I second Pam on Il Bargellino . . . I've stayed there 3 times and sent many of my friends and everybody loves it. It's run by American Carmel Coppola and her Italian (cute) hubby, Pino.

It's just blocks from the train station and the market and everything else. The rooms are clean and inexpensive. Ask for a room opening onto the 2nd-floor patio.

Tell Carmel hello from me if you go!
Sandy

Hotel Il Perseo was recomended to me. It looks basic but clean and is in a good location. Their prices are very cheap (Lit. 210 000 for a triple room) Has anyone else had stayed here?
www.venere.it/ferenze/perseo

Yes we stayed at the Il Perseo last may, I have posted about this before so a search sould bring it up.We found the hotel to be just fine, clean and friendly. It was basic but the location was wonderful. The entrance to the building is a bit off putting, but our triple room was good. If you have a look at their web site http://www.venere.it/firenze/perseo/
the pictures are exactly as our room was. I am sure you will like it, speccially for the price. Good Luck and I hope you have a great trip.

Try Pensione Ferretti. Spotless, inexpensiove, central and owners are very friendlier. Click over http://www.emmeti.it/welcome/toscana...erghi/ferretti.

Hi,

I stayed at the Il Perseo in Florence last April and thought it was a great buy and an ideal location. The room and bathroom (with bathtub) were both large with plenty of wardrobe space for clothes. Since it's a block from the Bapistery and Duomo I recommend requesting a courtyard room so you won't be disturbed by the street noise.

Adrienne
