Chauvet Cave area

I'm working on a tentative itinerary which has us driving from our base in Uzes to Chauvet Cave. From the cave, we'll return to Uzes. Is there anything between the two towns that would warrant a stop? Thanks!

There are several Plus Beaux villages you could stop at. You could take one route up and return by another. Have a look at Lussan, Montclus, La Roque sur Ceze. At the latter you can see the Cascades de Sautadet. You could drive along the Gorges of the Ardeche before heading south to Uzes.

We stayed about 40kms north of Uzes not far from Barjac and enjoyed this area. I do have a trip report here but it is the full trip and quite long. Scroll through to the Ardeche week. Some of the places we visited could be visited from Uzes.

A few year ago we spent 2 weeks in a gite in the Ardeche near the Chauvet cave. Probably the second best "draw" in that region is the Aven d'Orgnac cave with stalactites & mites. Rated 3 stars in the Michelin Green Guide (their top rating). There are about a half dozen charming villages in the area also. Attached is my 35 page Provence & Cote d'Azur itinerary - which contains a section about the Chauvet Cave, Aven d;Orgnac, and the charming villages. Do a a "find" on the word document for Chauvet" and you'll find the section about the Ardeche. Restaurant recommendations also.

Thanks for your responses. I'm reading through Stu's itineraries for Provence and Languedoc for more ideas. I may post a draft itinerary here next week...would love feedback. Thanks again.
