Should we reserve in advance or just go to the station? Any help or ideas or experience would be appreciated. This is to be a day trip and depends at least a little on weather. I don't think I want to go if it is very rainy; I have not been feeling well.
Thanks

Just go to the station (after checking the schedule on www.sncf.com).

Sorry you don't feel well before your trip, that stinks. (We're supposed to be in Krakow this week but my husband was too ill to fly.)
If you're looking for an inexpensive resto near the Cathedral I can recommend La Passacaille for great pizza and very good Italian dishes. The people are very friendly and there's a non-smoking section.

There's a wonderful stained glass museum behind the Cathedral that is worth a visit. Also, get the audio guide at Chartres, it's quite good.
