Thanks SueLynne, that makes me feel better about Grindelwald as a choice. Any favorite restaurants there?

Any favorite lakeside villages, hotels?

We ate a few times at the Memory Bistro. Try the Grindelwald smoked sausage Rosti.

Wrenwood, the Beau Rivage was right across the street from the SeeHotel Gotthard. The SeeHotel shares the pool and sauna area with the BeauRivage. I think the Beau Rivage is somewhat larger, but we did not go in. We found the staff at the SeeHotel to be so accommodating and friendly. When we checked on the rates, the Beau Rivage was about 115 Swiss Francs more per night. I don't think it is justified after staying at the SeeHotel. We loved this place!
Yes, I would guess Grindelwald would be less busy in September. The busyness there was such a contrast from Lauterbrunnen and Wengen for us. At that point in our trip, we were loving the quiet and serenity of the mountains and the quaint towns. It wasn't a bad place... I hope I did not give that impression. It was just busier than the other towns.
I am sure you'll have a fantastic time!

>Will Zug, being further away and smaller be less dramatic?<

I spent a wonderful Sunday evening in Zug two weeks ago. It's definitely a beautiful small town with an authentic medieval old part set beautifully along the lake of Zug. In the distance, you can see Mt. Rigi and Mt. Pilatus. We rented a pedalo boat ride and spent a 1/2 hour enjoying the scenery from the lake. Then we walked to the free Badi located at the end of the old town and watched the sun go down. It was serene and mystical.

But, if I were a tourist and had to choose between Weggis and Zug, I'd definitely choose Weggis. More mountains, more Swiss atmosphere and more beautiful paddleboats.

Well I am definitely leaning towards Weggis, it sounds wonderful. Seehotel Gotthard is still the best bet. We should be talking to our sister-in-law this weekend, so hopefully we can confirm a reservation.

Now all we need is good weather!

Thanks everybody for all your help, I have no clue how one would plan a trip without this board!
