Charming Paris hotel with balcony
I'm in the planning stages of a two night stay in Paris for February 16-17,2005. I've got a list going but need help finding hotels that have balcony rooms in either the 1er or 6e for €150 or less for two people.
I'm not looking for anything Americanized, I would really like a charming, typically Parisian type hotel or B&B. Thanks.

We had two balconies side by side at Hotel Residence Monge, and it's in your price range. The balconies were entered thru sets of French doors, but there was only enough room to stand, rather than have a table and chairs.
I think that man balconies in Parisian hotels tend to be rather small. We did enjoy standing out there and relishing the views, however, along with keeping the French doors open most of the time since the weather wasn nice.

Flygirl, I understood the joke. I know it will be cold in February. Just enough room to stand and look out is really all I wanted.I'll pretend it's June and the weather is beautiful. Ira, a balcony is something you put flowerboxes on? I guess I've never heard that before. Is that like my backyard is a "garden"?
Also, I've seen a lot of postings recently about the best crepes in Paris but nothing about onion soup. Any recommendations? I'm not a big crepe fan.

Hi tudor,
I highly recommend the Hotel Bonaparte in the 6th.
Dbls start at 120E/nite w/bkfst.
The rooms facing the street have French windows with "balcons". Some might be wide enough to stand on.

I like the Hotel du Lys in the 6th. Not all rooms have balcons or terrasses, but I have been able to eat breakfast on one, during one stay. Your price range and lots of charm.

I can think of two hotels where we've stayed that had balconies or small terraces--the Hotel le St. Beuve in the bottom of the 6eme and the Hotel de Banville in an off-the-beaten-tourist track part of the 17eme. Both were just a bit over 150 euros in high season, but may have lower rates in February. Both are extremely nice hotels with excellent service.

For onion soup I like the Brasserie d'en l'Isle. It's on one of the islands, catty-cornered from Berthillon's main store.
I just checked my notes from 2000 and saw where we had a teriffic onion soup at Cafe les Pres aux Clercs. It must be somewhere near the Musee Luxembourg but that's all I remember.

Why don't you take a look at the Hotel Familia, in the Latin Quarter near Notre Dame? A double with balcony and private bathroom (big enough for two small chairs and table) is 110 euros. The website is www.hotel-paris-familia.com.
Also, for what many say is the best french onion soup in Paris, try La Mere Catherine restaurant in Montmartre. Its address is 6 Place du Tetre 75018 Paris.
I wouldn't care if it were February when I visited Paris; I'd still want a romantic balcony!

.....that opened over our bed and a small terrace (balcony!) where we were able to have more than a few glasses of wine. I bought a bunch of expensive and beautiful tulips from a flower shop we could see from the balcony and we enjoyed the street scene ..and the lovely salons across the way. Only a couple of rooms like ours so it would be best to request..not upgrade like we did.

I thought I posted before I was finished with thread....so I made little sense. The hotel is the Lenox in Saint Germaine and we had a two story room with a working skylight which we opened in Feb.! We loved the quiet and understated hotel with friendly staff and reasonable rates.

Thank you all. This should keep me busy for awhile. I seem to remeber coming across the Grand Hôtel des Balcons in one of my searches, I'll check that out again as well. Should I assume that February is low season and I can wait to book or should I reserve something now?
