Tudorprincess, what about Mary? She's not Glorianna, but she's not chopped liver either ;-)!? Have you read "the Queen's Fool", by Phillipa Gregory? Anyhow, I am interested in a Balcony/Terrace room also...I saw La Familia had them too. Thanks for the added info all.

Good choice! I had wondered about Mary the sister of Henry VIII, who is usually forgotten.

We stayed at Hotel des Balcons a few years ago. If you are looking for charming, you might be disappointed. The lobby and breakfast room are very nice, but the rooms are fairly basic. Nothing wrong with them, just not "charming".

I haven't read the Queen's Fool, I'll look into that. Checked Familia and it looks good, maybe I'll expand my search to the 5e. Lenox looks good as well. I know tripadvisor has good reviews on Hotel de la Place du Louvre and Hotel Brighton, does anyone have any comments on these hotels? Although, I guess all you'd be overlooking is the Louvre.
If you're going to pick a Tudor princess, who better than Elizabeth?

Another vote for Hotel des Grands Balcons in the 6th. We stayed there and loved it. It is a nice area and very handy (and I think charming)and has a great buffet breakfast.Enjoy what ever you decide on.

Tudorprincess-for that rate, I think you'd be remiss if you didn't look at my favorite (maybe only!) 2 star hotel in Paris-the Hotel St. Jacques on the Rue des Ecoles in the 5th-it has charm, a lovely, helpful staff, many of the rooms have "balconies" and face the Pantheon(balconies really meaning lean-outs-but charming nonetheless!) spotlessly clean baths, 19th cent. murals and wedding cake plaster mouldings in the ceiling, in fact, some of the scenes from the movie Charade with Audrey and Cary were filmed here-you'd be hard pressed to find a hotel as great as this at the 3 or 4 star level in Paris, let alone 2 star! I think a double with bath runs a bit over a 100E's- really! You can go on their website and check it out (hate to spread the word on this place, though...)www.hotelsaintjacques.com.

One thing-this is NOT the Relais Saint Jacques-a different Paris hotel.

I have stayed at the Hotel Lotti on Rue de Casteglione, I had a nice room which faced the street and I had a balcony that I could walk out to. I could see Place Vendome to my left and the Jardines to my right. I also stayed at Hotel du Louvre which is a little more.
These 2 hotels are in the 1st arr.

Hi Spygirl,

The link you give is to a different hotel.

Is this the one you meant?

I'm thinking about ripping my hair out. I'm leaning toward the Familia Hotel but it doesn't really blow me away. I literally have a list of 70 hotels and they're all starting to run together.

I stayed in the Hotel Studia (Estudia?) once, on Boul St. Germain - it had a small lean out balcony. we were high enough up that you could see Notre Dame's Spire!

The Hotel Parc St. Severin offers this terrace (huge) room. I believe it's room # 70 but it's a bit pricey at high 200+ euro. But I guess it'll be worth it!

You're right francophile03, that's a great terrace! Unfortuantely, I can't go that high as we are also spending 6 days in London and most of my money will be eaten up there simply because of the exchange rate.

We stayed at St Jacques ( mentioned above) as well as Grand Hotel des Balcons.I preferred the latter and my partner the former so they are of similar quality. However if you decide on either make sure you ask for a balcony because all rooms don't have them.We asked for one at Grands Balcons and got one . We didn't ask at St Jacques and didn't get one.

Hi peteralan
I'm doing some dithering between the Balcons and the St-Jacques myself.
Can you do a compare and contrast, pros and cons, for me?

Ditto, peteralan. I was all set to reserve the Familia when my husband said he liked the Balcons location better. Also, what are the reception staff like? I want a hotel that will be helpful as we speak very little French.
