Apologies for my double response above. Thursdaysd, Spaniards Inn certainly sounds worth trying to find. Could be our lunch in Hampstead. Palenque thanks from me (and I assume the other readers who are following this) for that great 2012 thread. Too bad we can't find some way to get threads like that categorized and put into a permanent library.

Not a charming place but a 'museum' we found fascinating was Dennis Sever's House

If you can, go during one of the silent nights.

The Denis Sever House (daytime) is easily combined with Columbia Road Flower Market and Brick Lane.

Julie, so sorry that we will miss you. We will be in London the week of the 19th. Maybe by then you will have written a trip report? Or just some restaurant suggestions- you always eat at such fabulous places.

Have a great time!!

Have done Dennis Sever's House twice at night, not sure it would have the same effect in daylight.

Another vote for Shepherd's Market:

We had a very good meal at:

Walk around the area a bit up toward Farm Street and check out the lovely restored "mews" homes. Behind Farm Street is the lovely Mount Street Gardens.

Thirsty? Stop in at the Punch Bowl Pub...

We also really enjoyed a day spent out at Hampstead Heath.

Not "charming"...but John Soane's house is a quirky museum that houses his collection of pretty much whatever he was interested in at the moment.

Happy to help. We live in Massachusetts but always stay in this area when visiting London.

You may or may not be interested in stopping by the "Farm Street" church. It really is quite beautiful:

What a great thread! I'm taking extensive notes. We'll be in London in early October and were looking for just this kind of information as we've never been as taken with London as with Paris or Venice for example. Partly, I suspect, because it's so big I've never felt comfortable with it. This seems like a way to "feel" it a bit more, beyond the usual sites. I've already reserved for Denis Severs House!

The Kenwood House library is a jewel. We walked out the side of Hampstead Heath and around the road to Spaniard's Inn for lunch and then on to the tube stop.

Also had lunch at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese once. Dr. Johnson's chair was hanging from the ceiling. It was REBUILT in 1667.

JulieVikmanis, thanks for starting this thread. My husband and I have been to London a few times and are coming back in June for a week. We are planning a mix of of favorites like Westminster Abbey, but wanted to do some "new things." Hampstead Heath was one thought taking in Kenwood House which looks lovely. I thought to take my husband to Richmond for a nice Sunday lunch for Father's Day but will look at these great suggestions again!
