Champagne cellars in Epernay

We will be staying two nights in Epernay. There are no places for the Veuvre Clicquot tour left (in Reims) but have made one at Moet and Chandon. Are there some other caves and Champagne cellars we should visit. Any suggestions for restuarants?

I think there are only 4 in town that you can visit. On Rue Gambetta, as you walk away from the round about in the direction of the train station on the right hand side there is a wine shop that has seating and do great Champagne flights and sell all kinds of lesser known local champagnes in their cellars - I highly recommend visiting - we spent many hours enjoying champagne there.

We had dinner at La Cave de Champagne (farther along the same road). It gets great reviews but we found the food very average, the atmosphere touristy and the service sub par. There are much nicer places. We had our best meal at La Coquille http://www.restaurant-la-coquille.fr/ recommended by our B&B.

Enjoy!

Well, Pol Roger is the other big name in Epernay. There are a handful of smaller houses, but I only have experience with Esterlin, which is actually pretty good and a pretty good value.

It's not a big name but terrific champagne and I am pretty sure they are in Epernay...Billecart Salmon. We had hoped to visit there a few years ago but it was closed (August).

I really enjoyed my tour of Martel in Reims. They're a small house, not a huge commercial operation. It was quite interesting and the tour guide was very funny!

Tasting of 3 wines at the end of the tour.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner in Epernay at La Grillade Gourmande and highly recommend it. Champagne too, of course.

We also enjoyed our tour of the Moet and Chandon cellars, quite historical.
