Cesky Krumlov or Karlovy Vary?

My husband and I are traveling in may for 10 days to Prague and then on our way to Lausanne (renting the car in Germany, which gives us a significantly lower rental cost per day)

We are going to stay in Prague for 4 days, and we were thinking about going for one day to one of the nice towns. We have heard about Pilzn, Cesky Krumlov, Karlovy Vary, Brno....

Which one would you recommend? And how would you get there?
Train? Bus?

Do you think 3 days is Ok for Prague? Only one day for the chosen town is also ok?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Bus to Cesky Krumlov. It's a wonderful town. We have visited by bus from Prague, and again last year returned and stayed for 3 nights.

3 days for Prague will be good if you plan ahead.

Try to get tickets to the baroque theater at the castle in C. Krumlov. There are limited persons allowed on the number of limited tours each day. When I was there I believe there were 2 English tours per day. It is one of the very few remaining baroque theaters in the world.

Google it to get more info!

Have a great trip! Prague is my favorite city!

I've been to both Karlovy Vary and Cesky Krumlov, and loved both! It really depends on what you are looking for. CK is similar to Prague, beuatiful but smaller than Prague. If you can, i recommend staying overnight. We toured the castle & went on a raft ride on the river. The castle at night is beautiful; had drinks outdoors with gorgeous views of the castle lit up.

However, if you want a totally different experience than Prague, i would recommend KV, a spa town. Architecturally, it is different looking than Prague, and you do different things. We spent several hours in a spa. We don't normally go to spas at home, but this was different & very relaxing & fun. There are also springs all over KV, so you walk around with a cup & sample water from the different springs. Some are sweeter than others; some are hotter than others, etc.

so, it really depends on what you are looking for. We rented a car & drove to both towns & I think we stayed 2 nights in each town.
