Cesky Krumlov or Karlovy Vary?
Hi! I will be in Prague the first week of June for 5 days. We would like to take one day trip. I am leaning towards Karlovy Vary. Any thoughts?

What is the easiest way to get there?

Also can you recommend a sightseeing bus that we can take when we first get there to give ourselves an overview of the city?
thanks
Hi Jackie, I was in Prague in Sept 99 for 6 days and did a one day trip(tour) to Cesky Krumlov. It is a charming village but I would like to have had more time there. For just one day you might (as you are) considure Karlovy Vary. Unfortunitly I ran out of time and did not get there, but many people on this site have been there with very positive reviews.
Regards
Art
We were in Cesky Krumlov 2 yrs ago. You really do need more than 1 day there we were there for 3 nights and really enjoyed it. We haven't been to Karlovy Vary but would like to throw 2c in about Kutna Hora which is much closer to Prague. It was a royal city many years ago and they mined the silver there for coins. Enjoyed it very much.
alan

Another thing to consider is that Karlovy Vary is a functioning resort town, albeit with a long history (like Monte Carlo--it was the old sudaten German resort of Karlsbad till 1945). It was fascinating to me to see a functioning resort (as opposed to day trip destination).

A matter of preference . .
Both are lovely. Karlovy Vary shows you what a turn of the century spa town is like and Cesky Krumlov dates from much further back.

I just got back from Karlovy Vary and loved it. I lucked out and stayed in a very charming small historic hotel in a very central location - Hotel Embassy, Nova Louka 21, tel 420 17 322 11 61, email [email protected]. The staff was very friendly, which is not common here, and I had room 303, which is one of two rooms which have balconies overlooking the river and esplanade. And it was only about $60 for the room. The restaurant is excellent. Havel and Michael Douglas have eaten there. It has a great dark beer. Check out what is playing at the gorgeous theater nearby (I saw The Barber of Seville), and visit the Moser Crystal Factory. It is amazing to see how they work. There are many lovely walking trails through the woods and you can just enjoy the town's peacefulness. The busride is just over 2 hours and is very comfortable, although the Florenc bus station is very unattractive and daunting.
