No problem at all. You can't avoid them in either city.

Some networks will allow roaming on pre-pay, others won't, so make sure you get one you can roam on.

Try Carphone Warehouse (British name)/The Phone House (French name) in either city, they should carry phones from all networks at reasonable prices.

Doug

I'm totally in the dark about cell phones in Europe! AutoEurope is offering a free cell phone with car rental and we are interested in it in May when we will be staying in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and our apartment has no phone. That way could we call home to check on pets (with MCI card) or is it only good in Europe? What kind of pre-paid cards can you get?

Greatings,

I bought a French cell phone last year in March and use it every time we go to Paris. We bought it through Itineris, I believe a subsidiary of France Telecom. This phone uses the pre-paid cards that you can purchase at any bar-tobac or Itineris store. You are only charged for outgoing calls and can receive calls even with no time on the account. Reception seems better than my Verizon phone in the US. You can get 30 minutes of time for 140 Francs. If you can rent one of these phones it's a good deal.

Randall Smith

WE WERE IN IRELAND, WALES AND THE PEAK DIESTRICK IN ENGLAND THIS PAST SEPT. AND EARLY OCT. I USED AT&T WORLD CONNECT. YOU PURCHASE A CHIP FOR $25.00 AND IT FITS IN YOUR PHONE (OF COURSE YOU NEED A PHONE THAT WILL ACCEPT THE CHIP SUCH AS NOKIA) ANY ONE CALLING USES YOUR OWN CELL #. IT IS THAN BILLED ON YOUR REGULAR CELL BILL. IT WORKED FINE EXCEPT IN AREAS THAT HAD WEAK SIGNALS. BIGGINS ENGLAND DID NOT HAVE A STONG SIGNAL AND ALSO LLANBEDR WALES, BOTH ARE WAY OUT IN THE COUNTRY.
