Cell Phone Rental in Berlin
Will be arriving in Berlin and am interested in renting a cell phone to call back to USA. Will only be traveling in Germany. I have heard that there are stores available to rent the phone when we arrive. Can anyone advise if this is available at Tegel Airport or anywhere near Ku'damm as that is where we will be staying. Also I would like to return it in Munich or Munich Airport at end of trip. Is this possible also. If this is possible please provide name/names of the store that could be used. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Check out Travel Cell on-line. You can rent a phone before you go, take it with you and send it back when you get home. We have used them several times. It's convenient and they have reasonable rates.

Thanks Jagger I have heard of them but I neglected to mention that just in case we may not be making the decision until we arrive due to circumstances here. We may be taking wireless connectivity. But just in case we decide not to travel with that we want to know where we can go to rent one when we arrive. If anyone knows where to rent in Berlin and return in Munich. Is that possible at all?

It is cheaper to just buy a phone rather then rent one. You can buy them in a multitude of stores for as little as 20 euro, top them up as needed.
For calling the states, though, I would buy a calling card here in Germany and use your hotel phone or one at an internet cafe and your call will only cost you 1-2 cents per minute. A 5 euro card will last you your whole trip. Just have the hotel clerk show you which number to use on the back of the card. Some people have used the number that is meant to be for calls in Germany and then wondered why their call cost so much.
Don't throw your phone away either. This is unnecessary trash. Give it to someone who needs it.

Thanks for all replies. Curious if someone could inform me where the calling cards to be purchased in Germany would be available. Logos 999 mentions a store called "Conrad" which seems similar to a Best Buy store. Is this a source for the calling card? Are there any other sources? Are airports or train stations a possible source? Thanks in advance!

Conrad is an electronics store., Kleiststr. is withing walking distance of Kudamm. "Saturn" is an alternative, they're right on Kudamm, their best offer right now is a 5€ prepaid phone from "O2".

You can buy calling cards from internet stores. Saturn and Conrad are large electronic stores. You can of course buy cards there and cheap phones. Train stations and airports will also have a variety of cards and phones, but the electronic stores will probably have cheaper phones.
