CDG to near Sarlat

We are flying into CDG from America to join friends in a villa near Sarlat this August. Appreciate any advice on some options . Have pondered taking another flight to Toulouse and driving ... but I am sure we will be exhausted . Is Toulouse difficult to navigate out of ? I understand TVG connections are not an option from CDG to this area.

Toulouse is not difficult to drive out of. Depends how tired you are. It's about 2- 2 1/2 drive from Toulouse.

If your friends are already in Sarlat you could take the train from Paris - Gare d'Austerlitz to Souillac, about a 20 minute drive, and they could pick you up. Or you could take the train to Brive, a larger town just north of Souillac, and pick up a car there. It's 4 hours on the train to Brive, 4 1/2 to Souillac.

TGV (not TVG) connections are to Bordeaux, which is several hours west of Sarlat, and so not the most convenient way to get here. But depending on your connections, the normal train to Brive/Souillac could be. Have a look at the SNF (French Train) website http://www.voyages-sncf.com

Hi csb,

There are also trains CDG/Libourne. L is a smaller town near Bordeaux. If you will be driving, it is much easier to navigate.

www.viamichelin.com says that it is about 2 hr to Sarlat.

The Toulouse airport is north of Toulouse - so is Sarlat. You won't really need to drive near Toulouse at all. It is a very easy drive - as Carlux mentioned.

We've flown to both Bordeaux & Toulouse, and then immediatly driven to Sarlat. We've also taken the TGV to Bordeaux, stayed overnight there, then on to Sarlat. Also flown to Toulouse, stayed overnight there, then on to Sarlat. Also Bordeaux to St Emilion overnight, then to Sarlat. Also friends have done Toulouse overnight, Albi overnight, St Cirque Lapopie/Pech Merle overnight, Rocamadour overnight. Lots of stuff to do & see between Toulouse & Sarlat. Less to see between Bordeaux & Sarlat.

You have lots of options:

CDG by TGV to Libourne, pick up car and drive to Sarlat - 2.5 hours

CGD by TGV to Bordeaux, pick up car and drive to Sarlat - 3 hours.

Fly to Toulouse, pick up car, drive to Sarlat - 2 hours

Take regular train to Brive, pick up car, drive to Sarlat - 1.5 hours

Take regular train to Périgueux from Gare d'Austerlitz, pick up car, drive to Sarlat - 45 minutes.

Minutes = driving time.

Toulouse is not difficult to navigate out of.
