Can anyone tell me if you can buy reasonably priced caviar while in Prague? If so, can you give me the names of the stores and the approximate prices? I'm going there in March. I love the stuff. Would love to take it back home to the USA as a souveneir for others as well as for myself.

Lily,<BR><BR>I couldn't tell you off hand if caviar is resonable in Prague, but I was just there last summer and compared to Western Europe, everything in Prague is reasonable. It's a beautiful city and becoming very cosmopolitan. Have a great time!

Try Tesco -- there's an enormous supermarket in the basement. If it's not in the supermarket, it might be on the first floor in the liquor department. Tesco is a 6-story store, and it is Prague's version of Walmart.

Never buy caviar from dealers on streets or in front of hotels. Even if<BR>the tins and glasses look original you<BR>will probably get anything from shoepolish to sawdust. It will not be easy to get good fresh caviar outside of really good hotels and restaurants. The quality of russian caviar-mainly smuggled and not well refrigerated all <BR>time-is often not worth the money.Iranian caviar is much better,more<BR>expensive but certainly worth the money.<BR>Be aware of so called caviar in smaller restaurants and hotels,which is made of lumpfish and has not the slightest <BR>connection with real caviar-it just looks simmilar(tiny dark black eggs,very salty)

I bought a few tins of Sevruga and Beluga for consumption both there and at home at a small grocery/gourmet shop near the Tesco, next to a pet shop (no the pet shop did not have sturgeon for sale!) in the direction of Old Town Square. <BR><BR>Pricing was far cheaper than in NY, although I cannot remember the exact price, and pricier than in Russia. <BR><BR>Check with the US Agriculture or Customs department as to what amount you can bring back (there are restrictions on the import of caviar, maybe 250 grams).
