Thanks to all of you for your observations about Catalonia. I now feel that if we decide not to spend a day in Cadaques it will be okay, given how highly Mirabel speaks of Begur, and how negatively Zeppole speaks of Cadaques. (although I must admit those are the first negative words I've read about Cadaques) This gives us much more flexibility for the trip, and that feels great.
We are both very much into picturesque AND local culture, and hopefully will experience a good deal of both during our travels. If I have enough interesting observations, I'll write a trip report when we get back. Thanks again to everyone for your invaluable help.

I'm sorry you interpreted my remarks as negative. I quite like the counterculture of Cadaques. I have negative feelings about the difficulties of getting in and out -- especially on a trip as rushed as yours. I wouldn't have enjoyed it as a day trip.
