castle/clan site locations

I am going to be in Scotland in May and would like to visit some ancestral sites. I am specifically interested in castles, ruins or museums pertaining to the Blair, Cameron and Drummond clans. Thanks in advance for any info.

Yvonne

I am clearly becoming a sadly addicted person. Today I went out and bought not only a castles map, but also a clan map just so I could answer this.

I'll correlate them tomorrow and get back to you.

But I can't find any Blairs?

I'm even sad enough to look it up.

Try http://blairsociety.org/history.htm

which explains it. They weren't originally Scots and they were lowlanders. Tell you more later

Sheila, we might disagree on Inverness, but you are the best! Awful sweet to go out of your way to assist Scotland's visitors on their planning!!!

Hey, what about the Blair Castle in Blair Atholl, Tayside?

When my husband and I were in Scotland we visited the Blair/Drummond Castle outside of Sterling (near Edinburgh). This castle goes back on my dad's side several generations. It's near an animal park and has been refurbished and changed into a home for mentally handicapped children. If you want more info let me know and I will give you more details.

Inverness?....Bah humbug.

Blair just means "prominent place" -from the Gaelic "blar" so lots of places have Blair in the name.

I had wondered about Blair Drummond which was open to the public when I was a kid; but I can't find the connection to the family.
