Castle banquet

I have heard that there are medieval banquets held in some castles in the United Kingdom. Can anyone provide more information about this? Thanks.

We enjoyed the medieval banquet at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire on the outskirts of London. One of Elizabeth I's residences, it is open to the public during the day, but you can go early to the banquet and enjoy the beautiful gardens. It is also to get there by tour bus from London.

There's an interesting article on Eliz I's various castles at
http://www.lineone.net/express/00/07...0travel-d.html

Coombe Abbey just outside of Coventry in the midlands does excellant ones. Loads of entertainment and very dark and atmospheric.

I remember reading something on Rick Steve's website about a castle banquet in Wales. I don't remember the details but you might check his site or his UK guide book. Have fun!

Ruthin Castle in North Wales is a good one. Banquets are great. Went to one in Ireland this past Sept. with my Mom and 90 yr. old Grandmother and we had a blast. The Wales Tourist Board should have lots of info as well as the British Torist Authority. That's where I get most of my info.

Be aware that these things are expensive and incredibly cheesy and touristy. But you what? They're also a whole lot of fun. We (a group of early 20-somethings, Americans, Irish and English) went last year to one, and had a great time.
