We stayed at the Villa Cimmino about 10 years ago. We used it as a base for Pompeii and the start for our tour of the Amalfi and on to Sicilia. We were off-season, the hotel was open but the ristorante was not. Not much to the town that we could see, nice view of Naples and the harbor from our room though.

Dottie:
Caught an all day Amalfi Coast cruise from the harbor there, so only passed through to get on and off boat. A convenient location to use as a base to see the sights. The town struck me as a working port town, somewhat industrial, and not much charm. Great views of the bay however.

I'm afraid the town has very strong mafia connections.
A little boy was shot there last year as he inadvertantly got in between the police and the mafia. Torre Anunziata and Torre del Greco are not much better. The advice my sister gives to her guests (she works as a travel rep in that area) is not to wear any jewellery that can be seen - for obvious reasons.
I would prefer to stay in Naples itself or further along the coast towards Sorrento.

Thank you all for the informative responses!! It's ok, at least we can expect a great view & we will be visiting all the surrounding towns & sites! The place we booked there did not set us back, really only $35 per nite double, with breakfast & private bath! It's a Monestery!!! Mafia, huh?!!! No charm, but plenty of excitement!!! NOt a problem!
