CARTE SENIOR in France

I'm over 60. Can a tourist get a senior carte (it gives you 50% off on train travel)?
If so, how do I get it? Cost?

Thanks.

yes, I think so, as long as you have proper age identification and I believe you need a passport-sized photo for the ID card. It costs about 45 euro and is good for a year.

It does not automatically grant you 50 pct off all train tickets, however, only ones designated for that fare with available seats. I think you do get at least 25 pct off if the 50 pct fares aren't available, though, although I'm not sure that is on all train tickets, either (I don't think it covers very cheap, local fares, but I'm not sure). You get it at a SNCF station or office.

when I tried to get senior privileges the fact that I was not an EU resident prevented this in several places. check with the sncf site first to be safe.

Paul is correct. We couldn't get senior discounts as Us tourists.
