You purchase your Navigo, put your picture on the card, then load it for the 7 day period. The machines take Euros, American cc;s don't work. If there is a ticket window , they may or may not load it and take your credit card. Some windows are information only.

You need a Navigo for each person in your group. It depends on the day of the week that you are arrivng . The Pass is for Mondays thru Sunday.

You can purchase the actual card on Sundays but the 7 day pass loaded on it won;t be good until Monday. They have a 7 day system that runs Monday thru Sunday. You can still go ahead and load the pass onto the card but it won't be usable until the next day. No idea where you get one at CDG. I always take a cab or shuttle. Any metro station in the city will have them. Either have cash in Euros or if ytou want to use a credit card , you'll have to find a station with a manned ticket window. St Michel has one, folow the signs. ST Germain also has a manned window.

Just so you aren't looking for a Métro station at CDG - the airport is served by the suburban train called RER. So that's what to look for on the signs you will follow to Terminal 2 (the RER station is between the two major "lobes" of T2).

There are only two things you can load on a NC: a weekly or a monthly pass. You need to figure out in advance how many zones you'll need - about the only things most tourists visit outside 1-2 are Versailles (Zone 4) and Disneyland (Zone 5). If you're going to either of them, a 5-Zone would make sense if you also use it to get back to CDG on Sunday.

All the prices are here: http://www.ratp.info/informer/tarif_abonnement_o.php

I tried buying and loading our Nav Dec passes at the RER station at Denfert Rochereau. The automated machine does not accept U.S. credit cards. So I bought them at the ticket office window, where the courteous agent prepped the cards, photos, put them in the cases, loaded them with weekly C.O., etc. and I paid with the credit card. It seems she had to complete the entire transaction for each pass, so I had two c.c. charges (one per Nav Dec). Wasn't an issue at all.

I didn't get them at CDG b/c we weren't going to be leaving during that week's validity, so I bought regular RER tickets at CDG. The lines at the ticket office there were rather deep (30 people, more?), so I bought those tickets at a 'kiosk'. That kiosk didn't take a U.S. credit card either, but I had acquired enough euro coins to buy 2 tickets. I have read that some kiosks accept euro bills, others only coins, and possibly some accept U.S. cards. There were about 6 people in line at each kiosk so I wasn't going to study each one to figure out what was what.

If you think you are only going to travel within Paris (zones 1,2) then I see no benefit in traversing a huge airport with 5 kids under 18 to buy this pass. I'd do it after getting settled in at the hotel. At CDG, I'd go out to the taxi rank and load those kids into a minivan and go directly to the hotel front door.

Yes I will not look for a kiosk at the CDG rather I will wait until we are getting going. Hopefully will work out fine. I will make sure to get them to take 1" photos of themselves and bring them and then load it for a week. SHould be great I just hope I do not foget the name and ask for the Carte Orange.

Thanks and Merry Christmas

Print this, circle what you want, and use it if needed in your request at the metro/RER station:

Travelnut:
I am hoping you can be of help. I am traveling on April 27 thru May 11 to Paris. I plan on purchasing the Carte Orange but what else will be the cheapest way to get from the airport to the Disneland Paris Hotel, and back? I also want to show my 3 children all of Paris including Versaille. What should I purchase besides the Museum Pass? Or is there something else which would be better?

cigalechanta - the 'carte orange' pass (value) is now applied to the electronic plastic Navigo Decouverte card. So your old paper C.O. is no good but to put into your scrapbook. Next time, you take a new small photo and buy a Navigo Decouverte (5€ initial one-time fee) and have them load the 'Carte Orange' weekly pass to it (around 16.30€ for zones 1-2). Then you 'wave' your Nav Decouverte card over the scan/readers instead of having a little paper ticket to insert into the turnstile. The Navigo Decouverte card is good for 10 years, but you have to repurchase a 'Carte Orange' each time you visit.

philip - - you could use a Navigo Decouverte and a 'Carte Orange' weekly pass (x 2 weeks) during your visit. The pass is valid Monday-Sunday. If you are staying the entire 2 weeks at the Disneyland hotel, you'll need a Carte Orange for zones 5 (not just 1-2, as I advised cigalechanta). A 5-zone C.O. is around 33€ / week. There is no child's pass, they cost the same. Versailles is in zone 4, so that trip would be covered, too. If you don't have a pass to cover Zone 4/Versailles, the round-trip ticket is only around 6€. From CDG airport to DLP, there is a shuttle service - - maybe it will deliver you to the Disneyland Hotel - - also look at the hotel website for directions on reaching it from CDG. A Museum Pass is good if you are going to visit enough museums to offset the cost of it, otherwise you can just pay entrance fees as needed. Most museums allow children up to age 18 in for free.

philip - - the VEA bus picks up at several terminals in CDG and goes to DLP Hotel as last stop.

philipmarkunas - to get to Disneyland from CDG, use your 5-Zone pass to go into Paris on RER B, change trains at Ch&acirc;telet to RER A, and that will take you to the Marne-la-Val&eacute;e Chessy station (<I>Parcs Disneyland</i. Make sure you take the A4 branch.

Thank you so much travelnut and Robesopirre. YOu have been so helpful! Can I ask, do you know of a website I can look for inexpensive restaurants in Paris that are also child-friendly?
