Car rental location in Florence

I would like to pick up a car up in Pisa or Lucca on a Saturday (for a trip next September) and drop it off in Florence. Are there car rental agencies near the train station in Florence. Does anyone know which agencies might service these cities?

AutoEurope has a location in downtown Florence near the train station. We are renting a car in Rome next week and dropping off in Florence. I hope to get some decent directions before I go so we don't get hopelessly lost in downtown Florence.

I'm not sure about locations by the train station. AutoEurope should be able to let you know. I know Avis has a downtown site.

To Bebe: for driving directions you might try slowtrav.com The slow travellers have some good infor like getting in and out of FCO Airport, where to park in some cities like Florence. Advise is very specific- such as where the last gas station is to fill up a car. Lots of other good info as well.

Colleen, I'd recommend the AutoEurope/Avis location by the river in Florence.

Bebe, hopefully you already have a Florence map and the address of the rental place, so you can be prepared. Also, there an Avis (that AutoEurope uses) close to the river on the outskirts of town that is a breeze to find and easy to get out of the city from there. I'm speaking of the one at the following address: 128R via Borgognissanti

In addition to the ones already mentioned, Hertz is here on Via Maso Finiguerra (near the station) and Thrifty is also on Via Borgo Ognissanti.

Hi--Have you considered dropping the car at the airport outside Florence and taking a cab to the station? Much less harrowing driving and as I recall a cab from the airport wasn't that much.
Patti
Patti,

That's a great idea. Is there public transport from the airport? My wife and I are thinking of renting a car for a one-or-two day trip from Florence to Siena and countryside. However, we're a little driving-phobic and would be glad to get information on easy routes that aren't crowded. Joe

HI Joe,

I don't know for sure whether there is public transportation from the airport, but I seem to recall seeing a bus. Sorry I can't be more help--we just took a cab (there were plenty of those!)
Patti
