Car Rental in the Netherlands

On Sept. 17, 2009 , 8:00a.m. we want to rent a car for one day from Schiphol Airport to Sneek Holland. There are 4 adults with one roller-type carry on each.
We were advised to rent a car rather than take the train for a few reasons.
*Cheaper.(now Im not sure)
*Easier, as we need to do grocery shopping before we get on our canalboat in Sneek.
*Fun, getting to drive in new place.
We can check in on the boat that day, but will take off on weeks journey the next morning. So we need to get rid of car that first day, or early next morning.

Does anyone know an agency that has a drop off in Sneek and rents for only one day.

Here is the email I got from AutoEurope.
Dear...
Domestic one way policies and/or fees vary depending on country and the supplier. Every supplier we
work with in the Netherlands has a 3 day minimum for one ways.

The best rate on a midsize was with the supplier Europcar. The car is a Manual Puegeot 407 or
similar. Basic: $216.34 USD discounted to $212.01 USD. Inclusive: $25620 USD discounted to $248.51
USD. If you need a wagon, Europcar has something like a Manual Puegeot 407 Wagon or similar...
Basic rate: $237.76 USD discounted to $233.00 USD, Inclusive: $263.39 USD discounted to $255.49
USD. Please let us know if you have any questions or would be interested in booking either of
these.

We look forward to hearing from you! We are open 24 hours a day / 7 days a week
for your convenience.

Best regards,
BETTY

jetsetj - I replied to your original post about this. When I suggested a car I didn't realise you only wanted it for a one way rental for a day. See my other post for another idea. Otherwise have a look at www.9292ov.nl for information on how to get there by public transport. If you use the Dutch site it will include prices, the English site only gives the routes.
I never said it was cheaper, only easier and quicker

I have had a quick look and Sixt have a drop off point in Sneek, none of the other majors companies do.

How will you get back to Schiphol again? Hire another car?

Our boat is one way to Strand Horst.
From there we plan to take train to Amsterdam then on to Paris.

That makes life easier. You'll have to get a taxi to Ermelo station, unless the transfer is included.

How long do you think it will take you to drive from Schiphol to Sneek? Map quest says it is 84 miles and an hour and a half driving. Sneek is about 70 miles from Horst. How long will your boat trip take?

The Opstapper is now called the Stop/Go and goes all the way to Waterlooplein. It costs €1 a ride.
here's a map of the route; http://tinyurl.com/dfgzad and here's the info on the tickets http://tinyurl.com/cjcyds

I can't help with the apartment. It looks good and is in a good position though.

Do you know if there is a laundrymat in Elburg?

Thank you

They are actually very unusual in the Netherlands, certainly outside the big cities, so it is very unlikely.

Just had a look at Strand Horst for you - that has one
I expect other harbours on your route will have too.

Hmmm just looked further and now I'm not so sure. maybe you should e-mail your hire company and check with them on that. A couple of sites say it does have washing machines and dryers whilst there is no mention of them on others. Sorry I'm not being very helpful this time am I?

Me again. There is a laundrymat at Strand Horst. You need to obtain a special key from the harbour office. They will charge you a deposit for the key, plus of course you will have to pay for the machines.

hetismij,
That is good news as we can then go to Paris fresh as a daisy.
Thank you.
