Car Rental in Rome (FCO)

I’m trying (unsuccessfully) to contact AutoEurope by phone in order to book a car at FCO for our September trip. When I call their number the recorded voice refers me to the website and disconnects the line. I have several questions and don’t want to book on line without answers first. (I used them many years ago and was happy with the service.)

I’m wondering if I should book directly with a car rental agency instead? Any suggestions for a particular company?
TIA.

I always arrange my rental cars for Europe through gemut.com, a broker based in Oregon that works with Europcar, Hertz, and others. Their customer service is excellent.
