car rental in Provence

I am travelling to Provence from Paris this summer. I want to rent a car once I arrive and have decided to base myself in Aix. The question is if I rent a car and am travelling by TGV is it best to arrive in Avignon, rent a car there, and then drive to Aix or do you have any better suggestions?

Are you "basing" in Paris first? If it were me, I'd best restless and ready to get off the train by Avignon. But if you were going directly from a trans-atlantic flight, I recommend continuing your nap on the train.

Best wishes,

Rex
Last year I rented a brand new, airconditioned, automatic van in Marseilles. It was great.

Car rental-Provence
Whatever you do, don't go thru British
Airways in London. They use Europcar. We paid extra for cancellation insurance
and did have to return the car early in
Nice. BA refused to return any of our $600 [said we hadn't bought the right insurance, even though we had clearly stated what we wanted. Finally gave us a $300 voucher.

On a past trip with a friend, I rented a car in Avignon and we spent 10 days driving and touring Provence and the Cote d'Azur (Arles, Avignon, Nice, Aix, Apt, St. Remy, Les Beaux, etc.). We took the train from Paris and thought Avignon was a great base.

- Claudia
