Car or train from Avignon to Antibes?

We will be visiting France in June with our 11 & 9 year old girls. After 5 days in Paris, we will take the TGV train to Avignon and pick up a rental car at the train station to use for our 4 day stay in St. Remy. We are then heading to Antibes. I'm wondering if we should return the car in Avignon and take the train to Antibes or if we should drive to Antibes and return the car there. Which is more enjoyable and is either a hassle? Traffic? The drive in general? The train ride? The car cost seems reasonable so that isn't my concern. Thoughts anyone? It will be a Monday.

I first drove in the Nice area back in 1985. I returned about 5 years ago, driving in late September. What a zoo!
Heading in that area is very congestive.

I checked sample rates for June 8, one adult, and they are from 28-44 euros, with the low price around a noon departure. Total travel time around 2.6-3 hours.

For driving use http://www.viamichelin.co.uk I use it for all pre-planning. They show the time as a little more than 2 hours, with tolls of less than 20 euro. I'd put up with the traffic to save the expense of the train.

The drive on the motorway is fast and through rolling hills - - it's kind of pleasant. It's only after you get off the motorway that it can be more of a slog, but if you're just dropping off a car it shouldn't be a big deal. I would do whichever is cheapest and most convenient logistically, because neither the train nor the drive will be that unpleasant, nor will they be the highlight of your trip.
