car in florence
This is my first trip to Florence by car --I've always traveled by train -- and I hear horror stories about how expensive parking is there. If our hotel doesn't have parking, what's the best thing to do?

Parking in Florence's Centro Storico, the center, is strictly regulated. If your hotel doesn't have parking, call them and ask what to do with your car. If they're not helpful, switch hotels.
However, central Florence is not a good place to have a car. You may want to reconsider.

Sorry to delay my response -- just got back from Christmas stuff...we're going to be driving to Florence and from Florence, Betsy, so that wouldn't work...we found out our hotel charges thirty to fifty dollars a day, so we switched to an apartment, which sounds great -- overlooking the Arno, air conditioned, and guarantees a parking space for only twelve dollars. Thanks for your suggestions -- I'll check in after the trip and let everybody know how it all worked out.
