Capri vs. Anacapri? Capri Palace?
I have planned a trip to Capri, Positano and Ravello. While on Capri, I have booked a few days at the Capri Palace hotel in Anacapri and am concerned that it will be out of the way and inconvenient to visiting "Capri Town", where I suspect most of the action will be. We are not looking for major nightlife, just shopping, restaurants, etc. Are we making a mistake staying here and should we try to find a different hotel in near the main town of Capri?

Hello Chris,

You really don't have a problem as there's a regular bus service between Capri and Anacapri till midnight (1.800lire). It's only a 10-minute ride. The bus timetables are on:-
www.capri.net/home/en/transport.php

Hope this helps...

Steve

I agree witht he previous poster. And, although it is not as big or built up as Capri, Anacapri does have restaurants, shops, etc. In addition to taking the bus, the walk between the two is very nice - jsut walk along the road - it takes maybe 50 minutes. You probably wouldn't want to do this most of the time, but it makes a nice "event" in itself.

Absolutely agree. The island is not very big. Capri sits on one side and Anacapri accross the other. Easily walkable and bus-able. Take a different "street" each time and wander among the most amazing villas and vacation homes ever. The scenery is also cool and we took a gorgeous walk one end of the island. We went from Anacapri through the zig-zag walkway Via Krupp. It's technically closed but everyone hops the fence (ask at the hotel, they'll tell you the same). Then walk to the natural arches and around. Stunning. Anacapri is off the beaten path and Capri is within grasp always. Beaches are also better. Enjoy.

I stayed in Capri and visited Anacapri. I think I would stay in Anacapri next time. The main streets were very pretty, the views were stunning, and I've heard restaurants are not so expensive there. I found the local people in Anacapri were especially friendly. The "edge of a cliff" minibus ride between the two is exciting too! It's a short ride, but the little buses can be crowded.
