Capri - Positano
Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Weber Ambassador in Capri? I am interested in knowing if the location is good, and how the accomodations are. I will be in Capri for my honeymoon in Sept. and many places are already booked (Luna, La Residenza). Other suggestions are appreciated.
I also would like to stay in Positano. I am booked at the BW Hotel Positea - has anyone stayed there? (Le Sirenuse and San Pietro were already booked)
What is the best way to get from Naples to Positano? And is there a hydrofoil that runs from Positano to Capri?
thank you

Stayed At BW Positea last year . . . was great.

At the time there were two hydrofoils per day from Positano to Capri. . . about an hour. Suggest you charter a boat for a trip around Capri vs the standard tourist boats - about $20 more, but you can do what you like - like swimming in the Grottos.

Rented a car in Naples and left it at a parking garage in Positano. If you are going to spend time on the Amalfi Coast (vs Capri), a car can make your stay more flexible.

If history is on your agenda - Pompeii, Herculeanum and Paestum are all within easy reach. A visit to the Museum in Naples (where the artifacts are kept) makes the visit more complete.

In Naples Capodimente (park/museum) is also worth visiting.

try hotel bianca maria at anacapri, which is more charming than crowded capri town.price is only L150,000. rated a two star but has much better and cleaner rooms than the 4 star L250,000 hotel san michele. hotel is white, new , clean and has a full height window with views of the sea from your bed!

p.s. go to el solitario restaurant (a few steps from anacapri centre) for dinner. it was the best r'rant i ate in the whole of italy. its seafood is so fresh you could taste the salt water.e-mail if you need to know more. i travelled the whole of italy.

Do yourself a favor, skip Positano altogether and stay in Ravello at Palazzo Sasso. Capri is already so touristy, so crowded, so chlostrophobic. Ravello is obtainable by hyrofoil as well, and is just a bus ride away from the oh-so-overrated Positano.

JL--
Have fun in Capri...I haven't been to Italy before and am planning my upcoming honeymoon there for two weeks in July...and after researching lots and lots of topics on Italy, I have only heard lots of good things from people who have been there and stayed there. Do a search or pull a thread on Capri and get the info posted previously.

Regarding Postiano, my fiance and I are booked into the Hotel Villa Franca for the last four nights of our trip, which our travel agent highly recommended. Check it out on the web (www.villafrancahotel.it). I'm not sure what the availability will be for September, but I think it's worth looking into. I'll post our reviews on it when we get back (in late July).

Ellen,
I've replied to your post regarding your upcoming trip to Ireland (since that's where I live), however, I'm curious about your response to JL's question and your report on 'skipping Positano.' I have heard that Positano is supposed to be one of the most beautiful towns to visit. Of course, we've heard of Ravello now (through our research) and plan to visit towns like it and the surrounds while in Positano. What exactly didn't you like about it?

Thanks to all...and good luck & enjoy oyur honeymoon, JL.

We just returned from southern Italy having spent three days in Positano at the Villa Franca. It was a beautiful hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed Positano. On the way out, we stopped in Ravello and, personally, I thought Positano was much more interesting.

Maria,
We will be staying at the Villa Franca next month. When we made the reservation, they only had availability in the annex. Did you happen to stay in the annex or see it? I am questioning if the annex lives up to the same quality standards as the main villa.

Cindy,
It was hard to tell what the whole hotel bldg looked like since you could only see the main entrance from the road. We must have been in the main bldg since we were in a room right beneath the lobby. I'm sure whereever your room is, you'll truly love the hotel and the decor. It's decorated with bright ceramics and lemon motifs everywhere.

I would second the recommendation to stay at least one night in Ravello. The small town is definately heaven on earth. We stayed at Hotel Eden Roc in Positano. It was a short walk from town, just up the road from Le Sirenuse. The rooms had nice views, balconies and jacuzzi tubs/showers. In Capri, we stayed at Villa Brunella which we also loved.

The best way to get from Naples to Positano is to hire a driver. It is not too expensive and will be well worth it. The hydrofoil runs from Capri to Amalfi and Positano except in bad weather or during the off season. Then you need to take it to Sorrento which has a dock and take a cab (approx. $40US).
