Capri ferries

Can anyone tell me if the ferry system around the Amalfi Coast accepts credit cards (American Express) or do they only take Euros? Is the cost of the hydofoil worth the extra expense compared to the slower ferries? If anyone has been there recently, what were the views like? Is there a haze over the scenery? Grazie!

I was there for one overnight a few weeks ago and have pictures posted at http://www.worldisround.com/articles/53541/index.html

It was hazy. Also we were above the clouds so the pictures are part haze, part clouds. I liked the haze and don't think it spoiled the views.

I don't know about the hydrofoil being worth the extra expense, but for me, after the travel involved to get to the docks, I was taking the first ferry over, regardless of expense or time.

Thanks for the reply and pictures Jackie. I am heading for Capri tomorrow-staying at the La Minerva, Villa Rosa, Villa Maria and Il Nido hotels on the coast for 15 days. I loved your picture from Villa Cimbrone in Ravello. Hope to catch a concert there. I was in Switzerland last summer during the heat wave and was disappointed by the haze during the day and I heard that there was a similar haze over the Amalfi Coast at this time of the year.

Hi aneck,

AMEX is not as widely accepted as those of us who have the card would like.

I suggest that you have the fare in euros.

Visa and Mastercard are the cards most accepted in Europe. Il Nido will run a tab while you are there (meals, drinks, etc) and charge all of it at the end of your stay. I used my Mastercard there but I believe another person traveling with me used AMEX.

You can purchase your ferry tickets at any of the tabacchi/travel agencies in Sorrento and they should accept credit cards(VC,MC).
