Hi Ian. Loved your trip report. We are late "50 something's" from Chicago and could relate to so many of your travel experiences! I'm pro map and my husband pro GPS. After our experiences in Germany last month and your trip report, I'm even more about the map. 8 trips to Europe and the debate lives on. The Arcadia looks and sounds great. I'm really looking forward to our stay there. It will be our last relaxing moments before heading home. We're not going until September, so I think we'll hit the stair master to work on our climbing skills for Istanbul. We recently did full day hikes in the Swiss Alps but a person can get out of shape while " resting on their laurels". Thanks for restaurant reviews that will save us time and money. Appreciate the time you took to share!

soods,
Here is a quick list of the hotels we stayed at:
Horel Nena in Istanbul - great location, quiet, decent size room, good breakfast, wonderful view from breakfast room. Would stay there again.
Hotel Bela in Selcuk - very small room, squeaky floor, somewhat weak water pressure, but overall, perfectly fine for just 1 night. Nice host, convenient restaurant (with great food) on premises. Would stay there again for just 1 night, or maybe book one of their bigger rooms for longer.
Hotel Kelebek in Goreme - LOVED everythign about it. Location, view, hosts, food...would go back tomorrow. No matter where you decide to stay in Cappadocia, stay in a cave room.
Hotel Gardenia in Kas - wonderful location, view, walking distance to restaurants. Would stay there again.
Kibala Hotel in Cirali - was ok, but I would try something else next time. I think there are better choices there. But CIrali is not to be missed.
Regarding the GPS vs map debate: the GPS was great to take us from point A to B, to find the hotels and restaurants, but not the ruins on the Mediterranean Coast. For those, use a map.
Turkey is a great place to visit, with wonderful people and amazing food. Try to lose some pounds before going
