I cant decide if I should book a 3 week trip to Italy or a 4 week trip. I will be going alone to attend a language school. I've done this before I've always gone away for 4 weeks or more. This time for some reason I'm feeling as if I do not want to go away for a long period of time. Has this ever happened to you?

For my family, I would definitely feel being away three weeks was too long. I think if you have this feeling, then there's a good reason for it, even if you can't articulate it.

I never travel for more than 3 weeks at a time. So, yes: 4 weeks is too long.

Sometimes I feel like travelling for 10 days, so that is what I do. Sometimes I want a 2 week jaunt, which is what I take. I never plan to take a full 3 weeks unless I feel like it.

But to repeat: I never travel for 4 weeks.

I always do what I want whenever possible, so go for 3 weeks this time.

Like the others have said, go for 3 weeks.

BTW, which language school are you going to?

im going to the language school in tropea if i decide on 3 weeks. If i decide on 4 then i will do 2 weeks in a school in rome or siena then 2 weeks in tropea. I'm a teacher and have the summer off. This is why I can go away for a long period of time. This time however I cant decide on what to do.

I'm with WillTravel. If you have a feeling, trust it. I often do mine.

I would trust the "feeling".The question really is, has this happened to you before?
Are your feelings usually accurate?

Hi Mariastefnyc, I do know what you mean about having a "feeling" even if you can't quite put your finger on why you are thinking the way you are.

Perhaps you have been so busy with day to day life you haven't had some quiet time to think out what your true feelings are. I would try to take 24 hours without interruptions..cell phones..emails..busy life stuff etc. and try to get to the root of your feelings. Maybe it is something that will need your attention which will not be taken care of if you are gone for more than 3 weeks. Maybe your budget can't handle more than 3 weeks. Maybe there is someone you do not want to be apart from for more than 3 weeks. Only you can figure that out. I wish you some peaceful time to decide what is best for you. Best wishes to you with your decision.

Only you can answer your question, we cannot tell you how you feel. If for some reason you went against your feelings and something resulted from that, then you'd be blaming other people, and it should be the situation where only you are to blame. Not that anything will happen, but I am just saying.

However, I'd go for a month because the longer the trip, the better as far as I am concerned.

I never thought of this question before, because my husband and I take our cleverly-named "Big Trip" each year to some location (and it's worked out to be Australia/NZ one year, and then Europe the next) and three weeks is pretty much stretching it. I mean, we're lucky to get that.

While I admit I'm addicted to travel (why else would I be a travel agent?) and I fantasize about a trip that would go on for months, the reality seems to be that after a certain amount of time I DO want to go home.

I miss my kitty; I miss sleeping in my own bed with the pillow I like; I'm tired of living out of a suitcase; neogiating / transferring from Point A to B all the time. In short, by the end of the trip, I'm ready to go home.

But that's just me. You, on the other hand have the opportunity to stay longer. But if you're having second thoughts it must be for some reason. I say, "listen to your little voice". The one that's nagging at you for some reason we don't know -- it almost always turns about to be right.

Yes, Caroline, sometimes a holiday can be "too long" especially if it isn't as satisfying as you hoped it would be.

Oh well, just me then - I've never found a holiday too long, & would happily spend my entire life on holiday !
