You can get those maple leaf shaped bottles of syrup in lots of places. Some grocery stores, gift department in department stores, hotel gift shops.

FYI medium grade is more flavourful than light.

If you're worried about a bottle breaking, you can always purchase it in a can or plastic bottle. More economical as well.

What NewbE said, amen to that

<i>"I think the message of this post is being lost."</i>

Typical Fodor's thread, then, morphing into an argument!

'Frankly, no one cares what you eat or feed your kids. We give you a gift, you say thank you and do with it as you see fit. Eat, don't eat it. Simple.'

Well yes, of course. But the OP was asking for advice. If you don't care wether the recipient throws your gift in the bin, it doesn't matter what you get them.

To answer the OP's post, I don't know if you have this store in Canada, but you can always get them this;

Just don't be surprised if the parents are not exactly thrilled.

Not weighing in on the controversy but the mention of fruit leathers has me thinking fondly of the apricot shoe leather of my youth. I want some now.

The OP said she wanted to bring "treats for the kids". She did not ask for advice on the general topic of what children should be fed, nor even what sorts of gifts should be given to children.
