The only drawback on taking an early morning intra-European flight out of LHR is that this is a peak travel time at the airport. Service roads to T1 gets quite busy, security line is busy, flights often subject to delay because of tight slot settings.
My best recommendation for London-Ams weekday morning flights are VLM or KLM out of London City. The airport is small and therefore very efficient, served by DLR which connects to Jubilee Line.

LCY is great - but when one is staying so close to Victoria, LGW is just about as convenient. Luggage is no problem on the Gatwick Express. LCY would require 2 changes - to the Jubilee line, and to the DLR.

EasyJet flys more people to more destinations than almost any other airline in the world. It isn't some tiny-teensy new airline that is going out of business any time soon. You may not like their luggage rules and check-in rules - but you WILL have a seat and you will get where you are going.

I may have just missed the party, but for those that may still be following, I can offer some advice on VLM.
They are a solid little airline. As they cater to business travelers, they seem to stress the service aspect. You get something to eat and drink. The cabin is smartly done, with brown leather seats and very clean. The only downside is that they fly Fokker 50 aircraft, which can feel a bit tight, and the ride can be bumpy.
All in all, I would not hesitate to fly them again, and London City airport is miles ahead of both Gatwick and Heathrow in terms of convenience. Easy to recommend, even if you pay a bit extra.

Travelgourmet - Although I've already purchased it's nice to have the input about VLM for the future. Thanks for your input
I really waited too late to purchase these tickets and got myself into a pickle not knowing what was the best option. I'm usually more on the ball!
