Hello. I just saw a reference on another thread (someone's proposed itinerary) regarding driving to the Dingle Peninsula via Talbert Ferry. I haven't heard of this ferry before. Can someone explain where it is, and where it goes, and what the benefits are? Thanks.

Lisa, get out your map. The ferry goes from Talbert to Killmer (right outside of Kilrush) and back. It cuts off travel time between the Loop Head Peninsula and the Dingle Peninsula without having to go around the Shannon River thru Limerick. http://www.shannonferries.com/index.html

Its actually Tarbet not Talbert. If you want to drive from Dingle Peninsula to the Cliffs of Moher, then use the Tarbet Ferry service across the River Shannon, it definitely saves a lot of time. Last time I was on the ferry, it was quite windy, and our rental car was close to the front of ferry. The wind drove waves against the ferry flat bow, which caused waves to come over the bow and cover all the front vehicles with salt. Apart from that, its no big deal in crossing the Shannon, but does save time.

Thanks for all the info Tropo. We want to see so much of Ireland and are having trouble cutting back on our must-sees, so saving time will be incredibly important.
