Have you done a search for this topic? It seems to me that the same questions were discussed not too long ago. I will put in a word here for Ai Gondolieri in Dorsoduro..tasting menu is wonderful. Ask for table in main dining room. They do not serve fish, by the way. You can see their web site: aigondolieri.com This place is not over the top romantic but very elegant.

Can you comment on the average price of the tasting menu? Looked at the website and didn't see prices listed.

Also - can it be true Ai Gondolieri has a vegetarian tasting menu? Menu wasn't in English, but I'm assuming that's what "menù vegetariano base" means. This looks like a place we'll have to try next month!

You can get vegetarian dishes at Ai Gondolieri, but I'm not sure you can get an entire vegetarian tasting menu.

In 2003, a Venetian friend told me that the tasting menu was around 60 Euros; since then, the price has probably gone up.

I liked Ai Gondolieri; I found the food was fresh and prepared with care. But many people dislike Ai Gondolieri.

If it will be warm while you are there, check out the restaurant at Monaco and Grand Canal hotel or the one at Europa Regina. Both have views onto the Grand Canal and the Santa Maria della Salute church across the canal. The gondoliers cue up near there and sing and play accordians. It's a little hokey but about as Venetian and romantic as it gets. Food is excellent at both restaurants, but pricey as you might imagine.

Ai Gondelieri was the 1 meal in Venice I really didn't like. Drastically overpriced for average at best food and pretentious service. They also try to "sell" you to order more. Sooo many better choices. Antico Martini, Da Raffaelle, La Caravelle, the rest. in the Ca Pisani hotel just to name a few.

I had a wonderful meal at Ai Gondolieri. In early 2004 the tasting menu was about 80 euro and they brought us seconds of several dishes that I really liked. The service was excellent and I did not feel pushed or prodded in any way. I would guess that if you call them a day ahead they will prepare an entire vegetarian menu if they do not feature it as standard.

Depending on the time of year you are visiting, I highly recommend the terrace restaurant of Hotel Cipriani on Guidecca. One of the most romantic and elegant dining experiences I've ever had.
