Calabria

Anyone have experience of travelling along the southern coast of Calabria by train? Is it full of resorts and tourists? Any small interesting towns to stop over? Where is a good centre? Thinking of flying into Lamezia Terme and out of Bari. Unfortunately it has to be July or August. Any advice or stories are welcome!

I have been to Calabria many times and have family there. My family is located in Lamezia Terme area and the airport is located in the area. The coastal towns along the Tyrrhenian Sea offer seaside accommodations. Some places to think about are Falerna Marina, Pizzo, Briatica, Tropea, Villa San Giovani, and Reggio Calabria. Tropea is quite popular and is a tourist destination as well as Reggio Calabria. Since the English Pound is strong against the Euro and it is a short four hour flight, you will find many English tourists have purchased summer homes in this area.

Buon viaggio,

You just got an answer for the Tyrrhenian (Western) coast. Or do you mean the Ionian (Eastern) coast?

I mean the Ionian Sea coast. As in George Gissing.
