Buying train tickets for England online with a senior railpass

I am trying to buy advance train tickets for our trip to England in September. I realize I cannot buy the senior railpass until I get there but I understood that I could still buy the tickets online ahead of time with the discount. On the National Rail website when I add the senior railpass it still gives me the same price as without the pass. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Some advance fares don't give extra discount for senior railpass holders. Click on the fare name and it gives you details of railcard discount, validity, refund etc.

I don't think the problem's specifically advance fares.

Senior discounts aren't available on a number of weekday peaktime fares - and confusingly, the definition of peaktime for Senior discounts is different from (though usually more generous than) some other discounts. So if you're leaving London on a weekday morning, it's worthwhile checking trains a bit later (typically after nineish, though the precise time for discounts varies a bit between trains)

There also seems to be a slight glitch with some software. A journey I took yesterday showed up as too cheap to qualify for a discount when I looked it up on the National Rail website: the ticket machine at the station cheerfully knocked the 33% off anyway. No idea which software's got the glitch, though.

Which website are you using for the bookings?
