Bus trip to Cappodia is very long about 15 hours.
Goreme buus company is a choice.
What I can recommend is train or bus to Ankara.
spend a night in Ankara or have a break.Visit the Museum.
Proceed to Capadocia which is another 4 hours drive.
another bus firm is Nevtur.

Thanks! If we were interested in purchasing airplane tickets to Kayseri from Istanbul, should we book them once we arrive in Istanbul? I have tried to look for tickets here in the US, but the prices are really expensive (as much as US$300 roundtrip!) Can you recommend some ticket consolidators in the US for me?

Dear saxa97
If you got $300 from NY to Istanbul or Kayseri you have to buy that ticket because $300 is really good price. BUT if you are talking about Istanbul Kayseri you can pay 218,000,000 Turkish Lira which is $161 (todays rate) Roudtrip

It does NOT take 15 hours by bus from Istanbul to Capp. Ist to Ankara is 6 to 6.5 hours if you take Varan bus company direct. Varan and Ulusoy are the two best bus companies in Turkey. They do not operate out of the main bus terminal. Their main office is just off Taksim Square. They take you by minibus from the office to meet the bus outside of the downtown area. You arrive at the Varan terminal in Ankara and take a quick taxi ride to the main bus station for a bus to Capp. A direct bus from Ankara to Capp would be about three hours. Buses from the main bus station in Istanbul would leave for Ankara every 30 minutes to an hour. Seats are reserved on the buses like an airplane...it is not open seating.
If you want to fly Ist to Kayseri wait and book ticket when you first arrive. The airport at Kayseri is a Turkish Air Force Base. You will have to take a minibus from there to downtown and then take a bus from Kayseri to Cappadocia (Urgup or Goreme). Goreme is the backpacker scene. Urgup is maybe best for more mature travelers.

Saxa,
I recommend flying to Cappadocia, especially if you're on a time-limited trip. It's a short flight. And, as Nincedogan says, it's only $161 (today's rate) r/t between Istanbul to Kayseri. Some of the hotels in Cappadocia will send a driver to pick you up, but it is (if I remember correctly) over an hour's drive from the area you'll want to visit.
However, it depends upon what kind of a traveller you are; if you're on a very strict budget, then maybe the bus is the way to go. If your time is short, though, again consider flying.

Besideds Turkish airlines
soýme charetrs and private airlines are flying to ankara and I hope that they will be flying to Kayseri soon.
If you send me the approximate dates etc I can check and ley tou knowç
they are almost half price of THy.
The other way If you atre flying
by THY Turkish airlines
Usa to Ist and non stop to Ankara it is same fare.
What you have to do is fly to Ankara
Bus to cappadocia
return to Ankara domestic flight or bus trýp.
Your airplane ticket does not permit you for the stoover in Isstanbul thats why you have to use one way local ticket or local transportation.
then fly from Istanbul.

Nejat,
Wow, US$50 OW is a really good price! I have been in touch with other tour operators in Turkey and they have been quoting me prices of US$105 OW. What kind of restrictions are on the tickets you inquired about?

I took the overnight bus directly from Istnabul to Goreme. Easy ride, nice people.
The long-haul buses in Istanbul have a steward, serve drinks and sometimes a snack on board.
Seats are comfortable and you can easily doze or sleep if you like.
The trip was about 12 hours total, including rest stops and included a lovely midnight ferry boat ride.
Don't remember the name of the company, but on the bus ticket that I saved it says "Goreme Turizm". Arranged it through a local travel agent near Aya Sofia: Magnificent Travel

Can someone tell me if it is approximately the same fare in the reverse from Kayseri to Istanbul? The fares I pulled up were much higher RT on Turkish Airlines and of course I can get nothing on Onur. We just want to go One way Kayseri to Istanbul.
