Burgundy

I'll be in Burgundy and Champagne in September with the primary goal of visiting vineyards. Any recommendations?

Hi,

We just came back a few weeks ago. I want to recommend the Chateau de Chorey Les Beaune for staying in Burgundy. It is a very nice Chateau owned by a winemaking family. It is surrounded by vineyards and it is located about 5 miles from the town of Beaune, in the Cote d Or. They offer a wonderful breakfast, and you can also try their wines. Monsieur Germain also recommended a wonderful gourmet restaurant called Les Coquines, which is about 5 - 10 minute drive from the Chateau. It was our best meal while in France.
Also, note that wine tasting is NOT like in Napa Valley/Sonoma, etc in California (just in case you have been there). Please do a search on other posts for more info on this.

Have a wonderful time,

Alexandra

Hi Kelly,

Definitely visit Beaune and see the hospice and visit the Marche Aux Vins. If you haven't made accommodation arrangements and would like a wonderful place to stay, book a night or two at the Chateau de Gilly. It is one of my favorite hotels a stone's throw from the Clos Vougeout Vineyards.

Kelly- I second the Chateau de Gilly-we stayed there during harvest time --rooms were very nice-req.room with 2 twins ( and request that they push them together) as the rooms are larger..ALso make sure you eat in the hotels restaurant==absolutely wonderful!

Kelly,
I third chateux de gilly. They have a web site that is worth looking at. buy wines at Clos de Vougeot and you may taste and enjoy (while you purchase) at Domaine Bertagna. Have a wonderful trip. I would love to retire in Nuits St. Georges!
Maureen

Forget visiting any vineyards in Burgundy during the harvest time. I was visiting last year and did not get any appointments because of the harvest. The Champagne is not a problem because the tours work in the Champagne houses not the vineyards. Have fun
