Can any one give me tourist information on Burghausen? Is it worth a day trip from Munich? HOw long would we need to the castle?

Burghausen is a very nice city, with a great castle overlooking the city and the Inn river. You can visit the caste.The old town along the Inn river has aeveral good restaurants and cafes.

Having said this, B. would not be my first choice for a day trip from Munich. I would visit it after I have visited Berchtesgaden, Garmisch, Prien, etc.
