bull fight tix in Madrid

We are on our own in Madrid for 3 weeks. Any advice on where to buy bull fight tickets, what price recommended. It's 99 degrees today but I heard tickets in the shade cost more than $100.

I think you can buy them right at the stadium. I found it to be a horrible spectacle the bulls really have no chance since the are stabbed so many times before the matador come out. A bull did gore a matador when I was there and that is very very rare. the people gave a standing ovation to the bull and then the bull was slaughtered. they slaughter 6 bulls an event. It's a bizzare custom it's like hanging out and having a good time at a meat processing plant. They also cut the vocal cords of the horses that are used during the stabbing of bulls. A plaza is a much better way to spend time.
I have always regretted attending the bull fight I went to.

We asked our concierge to get them for us -- DEFINATELY splurge on the shade!! And rent that cushion (best 50 cents we spent in Madrid!)

I agree with "bulls" -- it was brutal. But those psych experiments are correct -- it does become easier to take the more you're exposed to it. It really is art, and it's not just for tourists. There is a beauty to it, although hard to recognize right away.

Just be prepared -- we were excited to go, but then were quickly saying "I don't think I can take this" once it started. We did stay to the end. My husband said he'd never go again, but I would (although MANY years will have to pass)

I went to one with some friends about 10 years ago and we found tickets from scalpers outside the arena. I can't remember exactly what we paid for them, but I remember it was about 50% more than what the face value was. Of course we were college kids, so I don't think that it was horribly much! We had nosebleed seats that were in the shade (thank goodness for telephoto lenses though, that is how we were able to see the fight).

I agree with the previous poster about the gore etc, but I have to say that I'm don't regret going to the one fight I went to - although I don't think that I would attend another one! A bull almost gored the matador that we were at - in fact the Prince, or King or someone from the royal family was at the fight that we were at, and that particular bull was almost spared because of his bravery - at least that is what I think the people around us were saying....

It was an interesting aspect to the Spainish culture, in fact it was one of the better parts of our trip!
