Budget travel to Edinburgh from US?

I am hopefully taking a class in Edinburgh this summer at the beginning of July. Being a poor student I need an inexpensive way to get from Milwaukee or Chicago to Edinburgh. Would it be less expensive to fly to London and then take a train to Edinburgh?? How safe is travel for a lone female??

Lesley, you are right, flying to London then either train or budget flight to Edinburgh is the cheapest way to go.

Travel for the single female/person is as safe as anywhere else, if not safer.

If you require any help before you get to/when you are in Edinburgh then just let me know

regards

Hi Lesley
You might want to check flying into Glasgow. I just got a post from Expedia.com on flights from JFK to Glasgow for $222. + taxes on Icelandair. Don't know if it would be good in July...

Have a great trip - Edinburgh's a great place!

Try KLM. Every time a Scot comes to visit me (in Wash., D.C.) I ask them how they flew in, and it's always "KLM through Amsterdam, 'cause it was the cheapest". Don't know if this is true out of O'Hare, but it's worth a phone call to find out.
