Budget hotel in Madrid

Hi I have located 2 budget hotels which appear to be central. We are looking for 1 or 2 nights in Madrid before flying home from there on Oct 14th. The 2 I found were Hostal Oxum on Calle Hortaleza 31 in the Chueca district found through Softguide Madrid and the other is chic&basic colors Calle Huertas 14 near Metro Anton Martin found through EasyHotel.com Does anyone know anything about either of these 2 places or know a better place in this price rage of 59 to 71 Euros approx.

in the middle of Madrid, a single with private bathroom is 49 Euro...on the 4 th or 5th floor of a building, very nice friendly owners, ask for Paloma, not fancy but clean, nice bedrooms and not the pits either, excellent location,

Thank you for your reply, however, a double in this hostal is 67 euro which is more than Hostal Oxum at 59 euro and it is not as modern. Hostal Oxum has king size bed, flat & satelite tv; fridge. The location is a little better but not significant to pay the extra and it is in almost the same location as chic&basic colors which is also nicer and much more modern.

In other words, you have no question, you're just advertising for the Hostal Oxum?

No advertising allowed. Bye.

Chania, the first problem is that EasyHotel.com apparently does not offer any hotels in Madrid. I looked up the Chic and Basic colors and using a December date got rates of 82 and 92 euros. I could never manage to get a price of 59 euros on the Oxum for any dates I tried. I am still looking for a budget Madrid hotel.

Chania, just thinking of the location, I would prefer the Oxum to the chic&basic.

As long as you know that you are right in Chueca, and feel comfortable with it.

Plenty of shops and interesting restaurants and bars.

Bye, Cova

Looks like a good place and the one review at Tripadvisor was favorable. Hope you'll post a trip report or at least add to the comment section on Tripadvisor when you return.

Easy Hotels has a list of hotels for Madrid at octupus travel. They show Chic&Basic at 71 euro. I e-mailed Hotel Oxum yesterday and they only have superior rooms available for my date at 89 euro. I contacted Chic&Basic and they will rent out their small room for 75 euro.

dmlove not sure why you thought I was advertising a hotel? All information was obtained from the hostal website. I have never been to Madrid or for that fact Spain. This is my first trip there. That's what I thought about the message from Mahya2.
I am looking for a modern room at a reasonable price in a good location in Madrid.

I apologize for jumping to that conclusion. (It was the wording of your second post that led me to that conclusion, but again, I was obbviously wrong).

I have stayed at Hostal Adriano several times in Madrid. It is a favorite of Madrid Man and also referenced in Maribel's Guide (www.maribelsguides.com) Doubles start at 65; Excellent location, IKEA decor, spotlessly clean, but street side rooms can be noisy if you are an early to bed person in late night Madrid. They feature fridge, DSL, satellite TV and safes, but may require more than 2 nights' stay in October.

On this trip we are staying in their sister hotel: Hostal Adria Santa Ana which is a little bit more (75 double) and right off of Plaza Santa Ana http://www.hostaladriasantaana.com/

Hi

Try the Hotel Asturias - http://www.hotel-asturias.com. I haven't stayed there but it strikes me as great value and in an excellent location.

When I went to Spain to teach English the organization in Madrid suggested Hostal FelipeV as a good, central, safe, and inexpensive place to stay.

I would think people living and working in Spain would be in the know.

If you know better than suggestions offered to you, dont post asking for suggestions.

Which is what led me to believe this was advertising.

Thank you all, especially Molloy95 and Kybourbon. I cannot believe I forgot about Mirabel. In May when I started to prepare for this 4 week trip, I downloaded Barcelona and others but had forgotten all about Madrid as orginally it was not part of the trip. Our airline, Flyglobespan cancelled our return flight recently and we had to rebook out of Madrid to Toronto, Canada and I suddenly realized I knew nothing about Madrid and went searching for a place to stay at least one night before flying out, forgeting about Mirabel. I am now back on track. Thank you again. I am not used to asking questions. I am normally offering advice on Greece Fodors.

Hi Chania,
Please do consider the Hostal Adriano or its new sister, the Hostal Adriá Santa Ana. They're both a super good value and so much more comfortable than the other properties mentioned-also the Adriá Santa Ana is just steps from the lively Plaza Santa Ana and a very easy walk to "museum mile".

Thanks Maribel, I have e-mailed Hostal Adriá Santa Ana. I asked them for a double room rate for Oct. 13th and what their cancellation policy is. They responded, "It depends on the type of reservation that you request.
Best regards,Alberto". I thought that was a little strange. Do you know what their cancellation policy is? We are booked on a charter flight for Oct. 14th leaving from Madrid and although remote, these airlines can change schedules if they don't fill their planes and since they only fly once a week from Madrid, they could put us on the Barcelona flight or something else but we would know several days in advance. Most places allow 48 hrs for example, advance cancellation without penalty.

Supplementary to the above post, I just got an e-mail from them and they have nothing for that date. Back to the drawing board. We would really like to find a place in a good location with a fridge.
