Yeah, that's definitely a matter of taste, Budapest is more interesting to me than Milan

So many factors can come into play -- the season, the weather, the hotel, a meal, and of course all of those isolated incidents that can make or break any trip. I try to give every city at least three chances to get me to like it. Of course, I have not made it back to some of them for their second or third chance yet, but I promise to do so.
And then there are places like London, which I have visited at least 40 times, and I still don't have a precise opinion about whether I like it or not. I guess I do, because really, who would go there 40 times? (Okay, some of those trips were on business...)

I guess that would be referring to the silly assumption that older people require the company of the young to have fun. As to the rest, I stayed with "ordinary" people every visit to Budapest, extraordinary friends of many years. It is possible to have a wonderful time with people you love even in a city that's not one's favorite.

"Prague also stood in for Zurich in at least one of the Bourne movies."
When we were in Prague three years ago, there were shooting what appeared to be two films: Zookeeper's Wife which substituted Prague for Warsaw; and a second WWII film we have never found anywhere (but it appeared to be a major production and maybe it was just a scene cut from the film above), but Prague was being substituted for Berlin.

I don't know if the post is nonsense or not, having never been to Budapest.
I do wonder when people come and join this forum and make a single post AFTER a trip only to complain.
Why not come here BEFORE the trip for information to have made it a better experience or maybe have chosen a different destination entirely?

@ helen63: I often think that cities are a lot like people -- if you are willing to accept them for what they are and see past a flaw or two, you can find a great deal worth knowing. And just like people, not all matches work.
I know that some people have not been enamored of Budapest, including several who posted on this thread, but please take heart in all of us who said that we found much to enjoy there. It seems to me that you have identified some of the city's treasures, and I hope you have no reason to regret your choice. And if you do find that you are bored, well, you can always take a day trip or two!
