Brussels to Normandy?
I will be in Brussels for the month of July on a Study Abroad, and i had question. Being a big History/World War 2 guy, is it relatively easy to get to the beaches of Normandy from Brussels? Could this be done in a day, or would i need a night there, what towns are there as well. Thanks

We will be driving from Bruge to Normandy by way of the WWI sites in July. We will take two days to drive the total distance, to see some of the WWI sites along the way.
If you have access to a car or are willing rent one, you can drive, but you would probably need most of a day each way.
My husband is a big WWI and II history nut. The first time we were at the Beaches we only had an afternoon. We drove up from MSM and then on into Paris after the stops. It was worth every minute we had and we saw alot.
For an overnight stay, Bayuex is a nice small central location for the Beaches and there are full day tours that start from there.
Another option is an early train to Paris, then change trains to Caen. There is a train on to Bayuex, but to get the most out of an overnight stay rent a car at the train station if you can and drive yourself. You can then work around your train schedule.
Don't let a short visit stop you. If you are WWII history nut, "a little time" is much better than "no time."
Do a search for BETS or BETTS on the board if you are in the US. They will work with you to figure out the best trains for you trip. Do a search for Normandy and Bayuex for info on places to stay and tour groups. Some one has suggested just renting a taxi for a private tour. We have done that other places and have been pleased, but we always had a list of things we wanted to see.
Good Luck and go for it.
