Thank you for all the great advice. We do like cities (whether big or small) that we an walk around and see beauty, eat, drink, and people watch. For example, when were in the Czech Republic we spent 1 night in Cesky Krumlov after being in Prague and it was beautiful and fun but no museums...natural beauty. Is Brugges like that? What about Ghent?

Ghent will be livelier than Bruges, but from what I read, it is under construction.

Keep the extra day for Berlin, lots to see and do there!

Brugge - 1 day is good enough, very quiet and pretty place but touristy! Ghent is just as beautiful, less touristy and the people are very friendly. I personally liked Ghent better than Brugge.

Loved Brussels, need at least 2 days.

Personally I would minimize time in Brussels--seeing perhaps the main square and then heading elsewhere (Brugge, for ex.). Same day. Last week we spent 3 nights (part days) in Brugge and one night on Brussels and was very glad not to have reversed the time. Only change I would have made is to do a half day in Brussels and gone to Antwerp one of the nights.

However, not so much nightlife in Brugge!
