Brugges-sell me on it!

My girlfriend are flying into Amsterdam staying for four days then taking a train to paris for four days, I've heard Brugges in Belgium is worth going to. So I am wondering if I should take one less night in Amsterdam, go to Brugges for a night instead, then head to Paris?

I would most definitely go to Brugges. We saw it on a day trip from Paris, and wish we had more time. On a nice day, the canal boat ride is just beautiful. There are lots of little streets to walk, the beguinage to visit. The chocolate, beer, fries and waffles were amazing (not a well-rounded meal, but it was fun anyway!). Pick up some lace for gifts for people back home. It is just a friendly, comfortable little town that is a joy to spend some time in. I wish I had stayed to see it at night. Don't miss the Michelangelo sculpture in the church...the only one to have left Italy while he was alive. Hands down, the most enjoyable day trip I've made, and I would go back in a heartbeat.

Amy

Definately stop in Brugges. Wonderful town. I went on a day trip from Brussels and was glad I did. The canal ride is nice. Chocolate... yummie And it's a change of pace from Amsterdam. Even though I was just there for the day it was very relaxing to walk along tree-lined streets and canals.

We loved Brugges. A small, extremely clean, little town whose streets were a pleasure to walk. We watched lace being made and bought lace Christmas oraments. We had a relaxing, enjoyable and romantic day and night enjoying the canal boats and waffles. We found it to be delightful and enjoyed it much more than Amsterdam.

Yes, Brugge (no "s" at the end when you spell it in Flemish; it's Bruges with an "s" and only one "g" when you spell it in French) is a wonderful small city worth visiting. And staying overnight is a great idea--the city looks and feels incredible when the hordes of day trippers are gone. Try and schedule your trip to Brugge on a week-day, if possible, it gets VERY crowded on week-ends.
BTilke (Brussels)

Well thank you everyone, I think I will look into finding a hotel and spend a night there, and it will be on a weekday too.
