The memory that stands out among all the trips I've taken is the day trip to Delphi that I took with three other young women at some time back in the late 60's.

It was a beautiful sunny day, and there were few other people at the site. I remember standing in the stadium, testing the acoustics--voices traveled very far, as if the stadium were a theater. We climbed through the place, visiting temples and exploring the area. We had lunch, and I (a non-shopper) bought a silver ring which I wore for many years.

Somehow it was perfect.

New Years Eve at the Edelweiss hotel in Garmisch (a small B&B place not to be confused with the big US Army recreation center of the same name there) with all the guests gathered in the lobby as the delightful hosts read in German a year end poem and then poured generous champagne toasts and passed appetizers--and later as the cute little oompah pah band with those delightful little shaving brush things in their hats played for us outside the hotel windows in the lovely snowy backyard. Wonderful hospitality and a truly memorable experience. See my trip report entitled Winter Wonderland at http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...e-holidays.cfm

Why have you chosen to only post this on a couple of forums? Doesn't every continent and island member have equally memorable holiday missives to be explored all around the world????

A cooking class we did last year on Christmas day in Hoi An, Vietnam with Van of Green Bamboo. Went shopping for ingredients in the market first thing in the morning. Then went back to Van's house where we chopped, cut, stirred and wrapped all the amazing food we made. It was a fabulous way to spend Christmas together. More details and pictures here: http://www.fromhometoroam.com/2012/0...mas-in-hoi-an/

My mother and I greeted the New Year 2000 on the island of Rhodes. There was a big gathering in the town center with a free concert, food, and dancing. The crowd was very well behaved and everyone seemed anxious to see the new millennium. The music was great and we enjoyed being a part of this huge, happy crowd. It didn't matter that we were foreigners or that we couldn't understand the mayor's commentary in Greek. We were part of the community that night and it was a wonderful feeling to be Greek, even just for one night.
